Abstract   Between l985 and 1991, fourteen women with stage I and II breast cancers were treated with conservative surgery and rsdiotherapy at the Soonchunhyang University Hospital. Median fol- low up was 40 months with a range of 3~78 months. All patients had local excision of the pri- mary tumor with wide margin and received 4500-5040 cGy to the breast; most patients were given a photon beam boost of l000 2000 cGy to the tumor bed. None of the fourteen patients suffered a breast recurrence. One patient died of distant metastasis. Cosmetic results were good to excellent in 73 per cent. Two patients experienced significant complications of fibrosis and telangiectasia. Patient with stage I and II breast cancer can be adequately treated with breast-conserving surgery and definitive irradiat.ion with satisfactory cosmetic result.
